Final Fit Out
The final fit out completes the transition of your space from stay and play community space to quality child care provider.
Staff and parents share their vision for the nursery. As your team of childcare professionals are recruited it is important to start developing your co-production relationship with them. Parents and staff sharing knowledge at this stage adds another layer of parental involvement, cementing this as a parent led project. Families will have been closely involved in all the decisions made about the space so far, so they will be in a great position to introduce staff to the space and explain what has been done and why. This will help your childcare professionals engage with the values and ambitions that families have for the nursery. In return, your new staff team can share their vision for the setting and link the resources, equipment and ideas to a professional pedagogical perspective.
Pedagogy is a term commonly used in education. It describes the art, science, or profession of teaching.
Do a walk through. Walking through of what a typical day at your setting will look like is a great way for staff to share their vision for the nursery and how they see it running. From this you can establish the final pieces of furniture needed to complete your space and be ready to welcome children when you open.
Adaptable Pedagogical Furniture. These items are likely to include furniture to support literacy and numeracy activities, a home corner, reading area, sleeping facilities and spaces for messy play and art. You will also want to consider how families drop off and collect their children. Work with staff to ensure their personal and professional needs are also met, for example a space to have confidential meetings and comfortable places for staff to take breaks.
Completing your co-design process with staff will ensure they are familiar with furniture and along side the families will feel pride and ownership of the setting and everything in it.
