The Bath Warm Toes Tour was devised as a creative response to the energy crisis, which disproportionately affects families with babies and young children, who, facing unfamiliar and sometimes difficult circumstances, often spend significant amounts of time at home, increasing their risks of isolation and fuel poverty heating and powering their homes during the day.
Over February and March we ran 13 creative sensory play sessions across 9 warm spaces in Bath and the surrounding area. Sessions lasted up to 2 hours each and we worked with a total of over 400 participants across all venues. Families reported having a very positive experience, enjoying getting out of the house but in a warm and welcoming space over the cold months. Many were using a warm space for the first time and enjoyed discovering places both in town or nearer home. Both children and adults learned new skills and developed their creative resliiance. The Warm Toes play kit was developed by Play Build Play to quickly transform a wide range of Warm Space venues into creative early years sensory play environments. It includes both ‘constructed’ and ‘found’ loose parts play equipment that are beautiful, textural and open-ended; that match the schemas of both babies and toddlers alike; and are appealing to their grown-ups too!
