Stay and Play Co-Design: Light Session Plan

Session Theme: Light
Time: 2.5hrs
 
Aim – Conversations, observations and documentation exploring the possibilities of light and how it can be used in an early years setting

Mobile Screen

Take home activity -  Nature Window Pockets 
 
Outcomes
Kids - explore light in the space using new equipment
Parents – Record observations about children’s activities
Co-DB – Support Adults and children to engage with the equipment and activities, record observations and conversations
Everyone-  Participate in take home activity, what is our learning? Capturing that learning and think about what it means for our final design.
 
What we are exploring?
Light and Dark 
Natural vs Electric/artificial 
Adaptability –  how can we adapt light in the space? Over heard projector, different colour gels, moving and changing light lights we make
 
Prompts for conversations:
What is light for? Visibility, aesthetics, the sensation of the passage of time
How does light effect the space? Light is emotive – linked to our well being and experience of a space
How are the children using the light?
Learning through play, what are the play possibilities of light?
How can we use light to meet our aims, hopes and objectives for this Nursery?
How can we offer opportunities to change/adapt the light in our space? Curtains, screens, light sources, reflections, shadows.
